Thursday, May 25:  Development of a Measurement System for the Investigation of Aeroacoustic Noise from Wind Turbine Blade Tips in a Closed Section Wind Tunnel.” Masters of Science defense by Brian Jensen. 8 am, Rogers 226

Friday, May 26: "OSU Industrial Assessment Center: Working to make Northwest

Manufacturers Green, Mean, and Lean." Presentation by Joe Junker, PE, IAC Assistant Director. 4 pm, Rogers 226 (social time w/coffee and tea starts at 3:30 pm).

ABSTRACT: Since 1986, the OSU Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) has worked to increase the energy efficiency, productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness of Northwest manufacturing facilities while simultaneously providing engineering students an education not available in the classroom. The IAC assessments focus on identifying and quantifying opportunities for manufacturers to increase profits and throughput while reducing costs associated with energy inputs and waste disposal. In the last 20 years the OSU IAC has served over 500 manufacturers and recommended actions to achieve a total annual savings of more than $86 million with an average 1.0 year payback. Center recommendations have resulted in a total implemented project energy savings of 479,455 MMBTU annually for an average of 1011 annual MMBTU saved per assessment. In this presentation, Junker will address the following topics: (1) How we run the OSU IAC; (2) the IAC assessment process; (3) types of industrial facilities we have served; (4) types of opportunities we look for and have found, including energy systems, productivity, and waste minimization/sustainability; and (5) results we have seen from our work.

Note: The most current ME Seminar schedule and other OSU seminar information is available on the Rogers Hall bulletin boards near the ME main office or at http://me.oregonstate.edu/seminars/.
