MECHANICAL, INDUSTRIAL, and MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING E-BULLETIN Vol 2. Issue #6 ATTENTION ME,
IME & GE STUDENTS Fall
Advising Sign-Ups will be available beginning this Wednesday, October 25th, in Why is it
so important to get advised during the Oct. 30–Nov.22 advising period? Short answer: Winter term registration starts in
mid-November. The sooner you register, the better your chances of getting into
the winter term classes of your choice. But in order to register for winter
term classes, you need your PIN. And the only way to get your winter term registration PIN is to schedule an advising appointment this fall!! And don’t
just schedule the appointment—make sure you come to it too!! You can only sign
up for one advising session during the three-week fall advising period.
If you miss your scheduled session, you’ll have to wait until after
November 22nd to schedule another one. And that will drastically
reduce your chances of getting into the winter term classes you want. Important
note: ADVISORS HAVE CHANGED. If you are an ME student and are not sure who your
advisor is, please check the ME Bulletin Board located outside If you

key concepts regarding assessment, demonstrates three different tools faculty
across all disciplines can use to ensure that what they are teaching is indeed
being learned, and familiarizes attendees with Angelo and Cross’ excellent book
of assessment tools. Please register at http://oregonstate.edu/ctl or send an email to CTL@oregonstate.edu. Friday, October 27: “Structure, Process, and Property

Cycle and attendees will have an opportunity to complete the Teaching Goals
Inventory, which identifies instructor goals and will be used to select related

Learning Workshop: “Addressing Student Learning Styles in Your Classrooms.”
2–5 pm, Milam 215. A substantial body of research suggests that students vary
in the way they take in and give out information and that they often learn best
when they have an opportunity to learn and express their knowledge in their
preferred mode(s). This workshop introduces Neil Fleming’s VARK tool for
identifying learning preferences, the four learning preference categories, and
implications of the scoring system. Handouts will be provided on how
instructors can modify their courses and assignments to appeal to the variety
of learner needs. Please register at http://oregonstate.edu/ctl or send an email to CTL@oregonstate.edu. MISCELLANEOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS Department-wide… WINTER PRO SCHOOL APPLICATIONS ARE NOW
